Cumerio Med JSC (currently Aurubis) is processing copper concentrate for the production of copper anodes and cathodes, as well as by-products such as sulfuric acid, fayalite and middling slime.
The company decided to build a new refinery on the territory of its existing copper plant in Pirdop. The new installation would increase the production from a current quantity of 65.000 tons to 180.000 tons a year. The investment in the new line amounted to more than 78 million euros.
Cumerio Med in Pirdop transforms concentrates with 25 -35 % copper content into 99% Cu anodes. Part of the anodes is transported by train to the Cumerio plant in Olen, Belgium, as feed for the electrolytic refinery.
