Description
With the introduction of the Golf 3 model
it was decided to introduce a 100 % waterproofing
test for all cars at the end of the assembly
line. A specific spraying set-up was implemented
in a 36m long spraying tunnel. A specified spraying
density per square meter and per minute was
to be applied during a period of several minutes.
As the cars were returning from a road test,
a washing zone was installed immediately after
the spraying zone. As these cars are newly painted,
special attention was paid to the brushes.
A drying zone allowed the cars to be dried externally
before entering into the testing zone.
The presence of humidity at critical places
within the car was then measured by means of
conductivity measurements.
The waterproofing test was integrated into the
existing assembly line allowing undisturbed
circulation of cars coming from the engine test.
Several layouts were set up based upon dimensions
of the different equipments to be included into
the waterproofing test.
The project was realised under normal
production circumstances.
Product description:
The VW Golf model is one of the leading
car designs within its market segment. As water
leakages are very difficult to discover at dealer
level, it was necessary to test the cars before
leaving the assembly plant. By doing so, VW
succeeded in maintaining its high quality standards.
