Description
Toyota Motor Europe has been in a key position
in the European car industry for several decades.
Toyota’s strategy for the European market
has led to the creation of several production
and assembling units, and units for logistic
support.
At present, three logistic projects have been
realised by Toyota: two vehicle yards and a
warehouse for spare parts (Conversion &
Accessory). This project sheet details
the vehicle yard projects.
The realisation of two vehicle yards is required
for the reception, distribution and
re-shipping of cars received from several assembly
plants by road and rail. In addition
to a car-park and a well-developed circulation
scheme, each vehicle yard also includes
an administration building, fences, access control,
camera-surveillance and suchlike. A filling
station was also considered. A building for
the final quality control and possible rework
as well as for the installation in of
Port-installed options is foreseen.
Product description (Valenciennes):
The vehicle yard in Valenciennes receives
cars from Zeebrugge by truck and by rail, as
well as cars that are rolling out of the adjacent
factory. These cars circulate on the yard according
to a well-defined circulation plan. The purpose
of the yard is to check the cars and to install
options before shipment to the dealer.
The site predominantly consists of parking spaces
and loading/unloading lanes for trucks and rail.
A workshop with offices for PDI (pre-delivery
inspection, where the cars are checked prior
to delivery), and PIO (port installed options,
for the installation of options according to
the customer’s wishes) is foreseen. In the carwash,
the cars can be cleaned before shipment. A night
inspection building allows the inspection of
the cars during the night.
